Many people in Ghana view Rehabilitation Centers in different perception and call it names such as center for the Sick (ayarefo) in Akan language. Also, they view rehabilitation centers as areas for training people/students with disabilities to acquire employable skills to be useful to themselves but there is more into it than this mere thought. Rehabilitation serves as a guiding principle where inclusion, participation, empowerment, advocacy and mainstreaming are provided to mitigate the hindrance towards people/students with disabilities in various life situations.
Situated in Western Africa, Ghana is bordered by Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Togo. The country approximates the size of Great Britain with a population of 25 million inhabitants. ICRF is located in Greater Accra Region - Ghana, where 90 percent of the population are exposed to city lifestyle.
The overall levels of educational attainment are much lower in the region, compared with the country as whole. Greater Accra - Ghana is a patriarchal society where Children are exposed to all forms of health related issues on account of birth defects from pollution and such.
